Earthling colonist girl meets alien cat-like creature and bonds telepathically. Touch of sexual tension, good bit of action (read: violence) and not overly introspective. Good set up to the rest of the series.

Here is the major sour note of my review: the first and second books in this series are still in print, as are the fifth through the eighth, but books three and four are out of print! I don't have anything against used books, but if the rest of the series is in print why pull the third and fourth books? Wtf? Grrrrrr.

This book is shorter than the others in the series, so be warned.

Overall: 7 out of 10
